If I had a bow and arrow From the quiver of Artemis I’d fly down from the moon And from you I’d steal a kiss If the wings on Hermes sandals Could twirl me in the air I’d make a crown from sunshine To place upon your hair If Apollo let me borrow His chariot and team I’d take you on a sun-drenched ride In the flicker of a dream If Aphrodite’s beauty Could somehow be my own I’d charm you with my loveliness While atop a heart shaped throne If Hephaestus let me use his tools I’d craft a necklace hung with jewels Of rubies, emeralds, jades, and pearls For you to wear beneath your curls If Orpheus would give to me The secret of his melody We’d live a life of godly delights And sing away days, and dance away nights If I had Poseidon’s staff on lend We’d sail around the river bend And take with us all his treasure Beyond all forms of mortal measure Strings of blue diamonds, and bags of pink pearls Would dangle from our fists And through our adventures we would become A pair of hedonists On Pegasus you’d fly with me And glimpse a young Persephone And forest nymphs along her path Soon to face queen Hera’s wrath Higher and higher we two would soar For our final magic stop; A castle perched on fleecy clouds With our destiny at the top We’ve opened up Pandora’s box And as we linger at the gates The daring end of our exploits is known Only to The Fates If we had the eyes of Narcissus We would stand and gaze all day But if we possessed Athena’s wisdom We’d turn and walk away For the sky above would start to quake And with a mighty jolt Zeus would awaken, heartily shaken To a missing thunderbolt |

quote: Mythology was one of my favorite courses, and when I homeschooled my daughter, I had her study Mythology, just so I'd take time to read that stuff again. enjoyed this creative write. |

Jess, I enjoyed the fantasy of your poem. It was a most delightful, dreamy and mythological read. I'm not too sure that I understand the ending correctly but it seemed to me that after all the previous if's that you perhaps borrowed Zeus' lightning bolt as well and experienced a little mishap??? Smiles. Enjoyed reading and God bless. -Bob |

I believe Mr. Bullfinch would have been impressed at the wit and humor and not least at the easy flow! |
