Beyond the flesh of bodies—Beyond the breaths of hearts; beyond where love shall sail within the spirit far. The heart dost know the passing for she hast passed before-- a mermaid in the oceans flare sat upon the mind twisting lovers to and fro—shall she be one of mine? Wandering the mortal lands—immortal be the sky; neither thee nor I could walk th’ clouds-- or the stepping stones of stars. O shackle me to the earth with chains so I cannot be a bird-- So invincible seems the world stood on that if we were to leap the nest would no longer wish of us. Cover me with lies! (O strangers! O lying strangers!) O what of country—countrymen! The world be our city none divided; all lands on earth be known as one before-- So let us not take sides across each ocean sailed ships—sail ships—we are all the same; let us not depart this world (on hateful rumours lies). Walk with me on the ocean with no boat or map nor land to see. Blooming only our emotions—emotionless hast yet to be; Desperation cries “Do not drown” let us float-- Staring up at the face of god instead. The sun doth tell me of a destination-- and night calls out to th’ northern star but still I do not know the way home. What spark of dust be a stone, What grain of sand be a desert-- what minute turns to an hour? What spirit knows the way alone-- which broken half can tell? We float this ocean incomplete; waiting for another to take us home. |
