Always California Somebody tell me why is it always California? Why does every song I hear seem to revolve around California? Los Angeles parties and lonely angels San Francisco coffeehouses and foggy mission bells and I'm stuck in the middle of this hellish oasis wondering and wandering, where is my lover now? Tomorrow I'll collect up the time gone by for tonight I'm haunted by the angel of Gram Parsons and the seven deadly sins of Jim Morrison let me in, baby I'm choking on the fumes of the afternoon and the breath you stole away from me And the Beach Boys are telling me there's girls to be found there with the silver saltwater and brilliant sunshine in their hair but there's this dull thud in my heart that tells me to beware of the empty promises injected into my veins tonight down south of this ugly Eden, there's a traffic jam in my brain tonight Tell my why it's always California? Why does every girl I love abandon me for California? What's with the heart attacks in between every desire? I don't understand what's so special about this SoCal hellfire and vacant-gazing metrosexuals you never get tired of and so I'm sucked into the smoking blue crater called LA Today I'm dusting off my wondering why wonder for the dark polluted sky and the demons of Hollywood to break the spell, would if I only could prove my love to the mysteries lies in her deep brown eyes falling down on me like an acid storm from above And the Eagles are telling me I can never escape the dark hallways with the screaming in the penthouse and dying in the words I need to say but there's a desert in my mouth and my sanity gets lost in the fray between the invisable stars and the plastic surgery moon tonight to the west of this beautiful Purgatory, there's a firewall in my heart tonight Somebody tell me why is it always California? It's always the center of the known universe, ugly and beautiful California, and here I am, a lonely man of the useless land between LA and NYC flaming like a pheonix for my girl, for a little fix to douse the flames in me and it really doesn't matter what she thinks of me, I'm gonna love her till the earth splits apart and California sinks into the sea.. Should be any day now... "Is any song worth singing if it doesn't help?" -- Wilco, 'Wishful Thinking' |

Enjoyed this very much... I could give you a lot of responses to all of the questions, but for some reason, I think you already know the answers. |

Wow!! I had to read this since I'm a So Cal girl...and I'm impressed. California is a place so filled with the world...all wrapped up in one state, even this week the beauty of clean air lays across the LA basin thanks to Santa Ana. I love it...also your poem! |

Ahh, California. My birthstate. The one I left and went back to so many times. The last time I left her, I said it was forever. But who knows? I've stayed away for 10 years, and a thousand reasons. I always enjoy reading you. |
