Where Is God |

Why so much suffering and sorrow? Why the poor, the weak and the helpless? Why the suffering of children in war zones? Does God not hear their cries? An old man remains alive years beyond his time and a friend gives thanks to God for keeping his body alive, if unable to move: there, God cannot heal, but He can use modern medicine for miracles! A plane crashes in a mountain and two hundred people die in the tragedy, and I find myself asking – not “Why?” but “Where is God today?” If God can keep one decrepit body alive, surely He can save two hundred people from such a horrible and fiery death? Surely someone on that plane begged the Man upstairs for help this day? Surely they were not all perverted sinners deserving such dreadful punishment? And so I ask: why save one half dead, but let two hundred healthy ones die? The answer lies in the question: I don’t blame nor credit God for this – There is a greater force, certainly that determines the outcome of every experience we face in life: that also goes for “God” like it or not. |

WindWalker~ I so feel your anguish in this~ I believe that there are so many things that just can't be answered to our satisfaction ... each time I lose a loved one, I ask 'WHY' ? I don't believe He means for us to understand it all~ I also don't believe that He places more value on one life versus another ... there just don't seem to be any answers ... *sigh*~ Doubt that I've helped much ... but didn't want to see this just sit here without a reply, for you poured your feelings into it~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

A beautifully-written and soul-searching quest for answers to an age-old question. I believe, however, that the question "why" is irrelevant--there is no reason as to why things happen beyond cause and effect. God (if he exists) takes no direct part in human history--if he did, there'd be no such thing as free will. Cosmic evolution is a process that will enfold as it will--it's as simple (or as complex) as that. Thanks for your poem--it has made me think. Cheers, Bill |

God gave life - what we do with it is up to us! We are simply incapable of understanding the "why's" and "wherefors" but some of us try and come out at the end none the wiser. Perhaps all a wasted exercise but not if it makes one a better person and more appreciative of what life has to offer which, by the way, seems most times to give what we do not want. The dealing and coping with that perhaps the "measure of a man". When all we have is "mind" let it be one trained well on this testing ground. |

Death is not an end of Life, but a natural part of it. Death is as much a part of Life as is Birth. During this life...joys and sorrows are experienced. That is...Life. There was a wonderful line near the end of the Steven King movie "Desperation"... "Want to know how cruel your God is? He makes us...Live." ::smiles:: |

I have spent considerable time contemplating how to respond to this wonderful creation. The questions posed here are not unique, as I hear them often, and have asked them of myself to no avail. What I do know about is unshakeable faith, for without it, the questions will swallow us whole. There is a plan, we are just not privy to it. Your work, your words, are something to remind all, and to keep us feeling. I appreciate how this must have affected your heart to write, for it affected mine to read. I used to tell my children if God wanted us to know why things happened he would invite us all to Denny's, buy us breakfast and explain it. We would have Theology and French toast. I understand the greater, underlying question here WindWalker... the one God must experience also. I enjoyed this work. |

The answer to all of these why questions asked throughout generations is simplicity itself: No god has ever been reported to, What never was cannot hope to hear from you. Instead of God it's the mystery of the godlike we should be contemplating through our expressions in poetry, philosophy and art ...anyways it was a nice read! |
