THE KATRINA TRILOGY
~ Linda L. Dowd ~
copyright 2005

The Katrina Holocaust

Broken, twisted, and swept away,
lives and limbs are lost in fray.
The raging winds and pelting rain,
~the surge and fury of the hurricane,
are forces stronger than those of Man,
as waters flood the southern land.

I pray for those who’ve lost it all,
~who wander aimless in spiraled fall.
May all those spared, lend helping hands,
to southern friends on sinking sands,,
that they might build what they have lost,
in this Katrina holocaust.

***

Raining Tears

The sky has fallen and waters rise,
as hopes sink with the land.
No man should be an island,
so around each, let us stand.

Arms reach out for loved ones,
but no longer are they there.
With loss of home and family,
lone hearts fill with despair.

Death and blind destruction,
came to those in her path.
New horrors come to light each day,
in Katrina's aftermath.

There is no consolation,
that could wipe away such pain.
For those who lost everything,
sad tears fall down like rain.

***

Katrina's Fury

Brooding clouds hung low in sky,
and were rushing fast to shore.
There were no silver linings,
as torrential rains did pour.

Stormy waters roiled and churned,
and soon did flood the land.
The carnage that lay in the wake,
was beyond Man’s understand.

Screaming winds from Dante’s Hell,
‘caused folks to flee and scurry.
They sought out havens in which to hide,
from Katrina’s raging fury.

Rushing waters staked their claims,
to lands not rightly theirs.
All was lost in this deluge,
amid their anguished prayers.

In the calm of the aftermath,
the silence was foreboding.
Debris and bodies floated by,
with morale and hope eroding.

The losses were far greater,
than one could comprehend.
And then there'd be the coping,
with what lay ‘round the bend.

Like the rising of the Phoenix,
brave hearts will conquer all.
They’ll put their lives in order,
and once again stand tall.

"Some people got lost in the flood,
some people got away alright..."

Randy Newman, Louisiana

and I told my momma this, some people lost everything overnight, and some are losing it slow.

Thanks lovely one, for thinking of us, during such a difficult struggle during your own time of loss.

You are beautiful.

(angel comfort and compassion hugs) Oh Linda, all three of these poems made me cry last year, and have made me do so again this year, reflecting on the struggles that continue months after the natural disaster broke the hearts of millions of Americans and many millions more worldwide! (wipes tear) However, my heart shines with hope, in that I've learned from history that ever so often New Orleans has endured ever too much heartbreak, from yellow fever to the Civil War to this tragedy, and though new Orleans is easily to me the American city that has endured more pain than any other, hope and faith is also incredibly strong in this community, and THAT is exactly why New Orleans is a most unique and intoxicating city to me. (hugs) It is no surprise to me why the city is ruled by Scorpio either, as Pluto rules Scorpio which as you are well aware is the planet of death, re-birth and transformation, and though things will never be the same in New Orleans, I am most optimistic the culture and spirit will never be forgotten, and the city will rise again like the incandescent phoenix! (wipes tears) God Bless You, dearest, most compassionate friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Linda - such fine words for those in despair that I find myself now so very grateful for my life.  When something drops off the news we're inclined to forget that the struggle continues and this perhaps an element of human nature that must be overcome.  Everything lingers longer than one would suppose and we should be aware of that.  You are a beacon shining bright, dear Linda!

You have words that bring tears and again rip hearts apart. It pains me so to know that even a year later, there is such suffering and misery in our 'southern land.'

Yet, we continue to pour billions plus into a war that is ridiculous.

Love you, love your words, Marti

Linda

Katrina brought with her complete despair, pain, sorrow and much more, yet, she also brought with her compassion and loving care...within people as yourself, which gifts our world with hope and love...

thank you for this..

What lovely, compassionate replies! Blessings to each and every one of you.

With the one-year anniversary Katrina, the media coverage has been intense and is a reminder that our southern friends are still in need of our help.

Loving Light,
EA
