Lumpy Oatmeal makes me Crazy!

0 posted 2006-08-27 12:57 PM

I got me a Pit Bull
He is tawny and he is lean
The neighbors more than hate him
They sure think he is mean.
And, they are right.

So I got him a lady
To help find his sensitive side
She played him like a boy toy
And she took him for a ride.
And, he liked it.

He’s still got a real attitude
She is meaner than a snake
They now have a co-dependent relationship
Finding her was a big mistake
And, it was.

I got me eight Pit Bull puppies
They have all the neighbors on the run
I’d take them to the Dog Pound
But I am a rabbit on the run.
And, I am.

So don’t get any Pit Bulls
They aren’t really all that kind
They love me to play me like a dog toy
As they take a bite out of my behind.
And, they do.

:: Just laughs ::

You know, I kind of do too.  I am not sure why.  Thank you - you know how I feel about your writing.

Actually, if find this quite offensive. It's not the dogs that are the problem, it's irresponsible ownership. For example, here in BCN, there are restrictions on certain dogs because their breed is favoured by certain types of people who raise them wrongly. In my experience, though, it's the large and small dogs, from Belgian Sheperds to Chiuaua's (sp?) , owned by some old women, that are vicious, as they're raised to fear other breeds and situations, therefore making them likely to react in fear. I've had old women shout at me in Catalan while uselessly trying to restrain their mutts, telling me that my dog is dangerous, while my dog's lying with her belly up, wagging her tail. I don't doubt though, if she were to be attacked, or felt fear without being calmed, she would become vicious herself, it's only natural to protect oneself (She's a British Staffordshire, small but strong.) I've had poodles yap aggressively at us, yet I don't call for restrictions on them. It's people who are the problem, not breeds of dogs.

Incidentally, no matter what the breed, if you socialise a dog properly at an early age, they'll have years of fun cavorting with other dogs, cats, and children, with no harm done. I will say, however, I don't think anyone should get a dog too strong or too big for them to handle. The dog's got to know who's in charge.

Alison, this is hysterical! My neighbor has a new pit pup and I will be SURE to print tbis up for her! She will love it! If you decide to expand on your breeds, I have a Boston Terrier, Pug, and English Bulldog, (now there's a terror!)
Excellent write, friend.

Kif Kif (for lack of a better name to call you).

Thank you.  I am glad that I offended you.  I am glad that I impassioned you.

I am owned by two dogs.  I often write of my last dog - re.  warm pumpkin bread and backseat driving me.

However, life has humor too.  That is the stand point that I write from.  I figured some would come out stridantly in favor of pit bulls.  I appreciate that dedication.

My poem does not diminish my deep love for animals.

Again, thank you for taking offense.

A better name? That's nothing more than ill mannered. You're on a roll today.

You didn't impassion me, I've always been like this...and to be glad to offend me-what, one rule for you, and another for me? Yikes.

Yes, there's humour, but when it's at the expense of another life, I don't think it is humourous.

Dogs are murdered every day because of attitudes like you've expressed here.

ps; you can't decide what your 'poem' does, or doesn't, unless you keep it to yourself.

kif kif, you are out of line. This is the Open Forum, not the Alley. Whether you agree with the content of the poem or not is not the question. Responses here are based on the quality of  the writing, the work of the author or constructive critiques. It is not a forum where insults are traded. If you feel so offended by the content, you may contact the author by personal e-mail or some other means - not here.

In addition, if you feel that the poem should not be posted  on the forum, you may click the "inappropriate content" button and send a report to the moderating staff indicating which policy rule you feel has been violated, who will evaluate your complaint. I can assure you with a very reasonable amount of certainty that, in this issue, your complaint would be rejected.

I wrote this poem the other night. I did not write it because I was standing up for animal issues.  I did not write it because I hate Pit Bulls.  I did not write it because I take animals to the Shelter.  I did not write it as a political statement.  I did not write it for any reason other than the fact that it came into my head as I was puttering in my head.

I do not support abandoment of animals.

Is my poem in poor taste?  No, I don't think it is.  Is it meant to be humrourous?  I believe that is obvious.  Am I waffling as to why I wrote it?  No, I don't know why I wrote it.  I did because it made me smile.

This conversation is closed.  I will accept no emails in regards to it.
