5648 Daughters of Kind 26 August 2006 On a time long to pass in a man’s quest for love As unto Canaan, and desires set this man, this love, those daughters of kind Given over to what could or could not be Libra and Capricorn and oceans of the sea Provinces of hope, or even doubt of a village heart captured in face Sweet and beauty, kindred and gentle much as to the fairytale to dream Romance, love, whatsoever word called neither to have, and against second best Rachel and Leah, sisters of heart older and younger, age merciful to decide The fire next to a burning bush, each brush a hair of faith “And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured. And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me? And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years. And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.” Genesis 29: 16-17, 25, 30-31 KJV © 2006 Christopher W Herbert (a New Zealand Poet) a poet who cares |
