Is this death? Deep underground With black coal an inch from your nose Or a mile full of dark and as cold as your toes Is this how it goes? A flickering light As the battery runs low ‘til the night falls Like the tunnel below with a groan Am I alone? Tied to my fate With a tugged rope and their whispers Lipless psalms from nameless faces Wasting our air with their prayer Is my time almost there? Is this the end In the dark by my friends? They’re up there, my family of tears, Where these drips once were rain And will be again in the spring. Will they hate me? For leaving them so For letting them go on alone? Take me now Lord and shorten their pain. |
