Black and White, Coloured

19 August 2006

One empty day, becomes a full promise
Just as the light changes
in colours of red to green

That amber happening
like lines of a Zebra
This crossing of emotions
and what can be reflected beyond

The starlight, a summer’s day
that new born animal of natures spring
For there was heaven, and this land of hope
a destination, a journey of separate past

While she knew the truth
that truth of words upon a stage
Each one, of another, a house, two hands
children of timid introduction,
then the sky was the roof

A traffic light, traffic signal, or stop light is a signalling device positioned at a road
intersection, pedestrian crossing, or other location in order to indicate when it is safe
to drive, ride, or walk using a universal colour code.

Traffic lights, for vehicles or pedestrians, always have two main lights, a red light that means
stop and a green light that means go. Usually, the red light contains some orange in its hue,
and the green light contains some blue, to provide some support for people with red-green
colour blindness.

In most countries there is also a yellow (or amber) light, which when on by itself and not
flashing means stop if able to do so safely. While the ruling of this amber light may very in
legal terms and obligations depending on the laws of each country.

A zebra crossing (referred to in the U.S.A as a “crosswalk”) is a type of pedestrian crossing
used in many places around the world. The crossing is characterised by longitudinal stripes
(hence the term, named after the zebra) on the road, parallel to the flow of the traffic,
alternately a light colour (usually white) and a dark one (painted black, or left unpainted
when the road surface itself is of a dark colour).
