The sea spreads out there, unquiet as always,
cold and gray, tossed by untamed winds,
pushing its waves upon a gray, sandy shore.
Such is an image witnessed and reproduced
a million million times since man encountered time
and with the help of this imposed construct
he learned to see life uni-directionally.

Is it the same sea, tossed every which way,
often wickedly by apparently fickle winds?
The same winds? The same sandy shore?
Is it even the same earth the man stands upon?

No. But the impression of sameness,
of permanence, even of eternity
lies deep within the human psyche:
and he believes - how he believes it must be.

What a great comfort to those of short lives
to believe in eternity; to think in time
that permanence is wrought from impermanence;
that eternity can be derived from death.

But the question to ask must be:
does believing make it so?
"First comes the dream, then the reality."
is taught in Earthian schools.
How unwise, how ignorant, to say such things.
For the dream is its own reality.

The sea in my yesterdays (my dreams)
may resemble the sea beyond the dunes
but they are not the same sea, though both real.
The shore in my yesterdays (my dreams)
may seem as the shore I'm walking on
but they are not the same shore, though both real.
nor is the wind the same wind, though both real.
The "me" in my yesterdays (my dreams)
may seem as the "me" standing here today
but we are not the same, though both real enough.

"...we are not the same, though both real enough."
Well said

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Such a frothy write.

This brought the image of the Lake, the dunes...on a February afternoon.
Standing in the same spot, things were quite different in July...different still in September...
We change, we grow...become and relent...
I liked this.
