A Note to Emily Dickenson

What thoughts have you been pondering?
What tidbit flinched your eye?
What deed will you make pudding of?
Whose banner will you fly?

Perhaps it is presumptuous
To flaunt absurdity
That tidbits flinging here and there
Hold some appeal to thee

You are in love, and so you’ve lived
And life has taught you well
All thoughts of love that you possess
Are worth their time to tell

I will not spill your heart, my dear
I will not be your curse
Unless of course, you do not spread
These tidbits in your verse

Speak what you feel, speak what you think
Let all the world imbibe
Intoxications of your heart
Or face this little bribe

What is a friend, if not a voice
To conjure and pursue
To badger and manipulate
A darling such as you?

Such verse would surely never fall
To dust upon a shelf
Though I, in curiosity,
Speak only for myself

... and you speak so very well

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

I truly enjoyed this one--it's light, but well-constructed and warm.

So true and exquisitely expressed, Liz.
Emily Dickenson was my Grandma's favourite poet ~along with Sylvia Plath.
I'm saving this in my Grandma, Phyllis' honour

Intellectually I know that Canada is no better than any other country. Emotionally I KNOW that Canada is the best country in the world!

Thank you all so much for your comments
denise, I miss you - come to Fleetwood
Melissa, you warmed my heart.
I have long wondered if Emily was really in love with someone, and this was just a tease.
Glad you liked it
Liz
