Not Ready For Good-bye

Your head rested soft upon pillow of satin,
Your arms crossed over suit freshly pressed.
I knelt beside you whispering your name
Golden curls weeping down length of black dress.

I remember brushing your cheek with finger,
And the longing rising, my own neap tide.
But I would not believe you were not coming home,
You were not gone yet, to myself I lied.

Hands took my shoulders and tried to raise me.
Tried to raise me, but it would not be done.
For I was rooted there next to my lovers casket.
Step away from me I told my son.

Leave me here with his shadow, on this satin pillow.
I am not done trying to help him to live.
Leave me here next to this body I so love.
There is so much more I have yet to give.

And I kissed your cheek now awash in my tears.
I called your name, but you just would not wake.
And I need you to tell me just how do I go on?
How do I stop giving what you no longer can take?

And I hurt so, Lord, my heart aches so badly.
My arms can still feel you, though you are not at my side.
And the nonsense I speak, I do mean as truth.
Why did you not take me the day that you died?

A very touching write...the stark sadness
of death is the silence...unbroken except
for our mourning of what was.

Seraphin,

"There is so much more I have to yet give."  I'll never understand loss or death, but I do know this feeling.  Keep writing, Sweet One.  In your sharing, you are giving more than you'll ever know...  Wish I could say something to cause the pain to go away.
