Amish Sunset When squinting glare of afternoon Descends into a glowing haze A father and a son take pause To mark the end of summer days Engaging in an idle talk Two silhouettes against the red A quiet moment by a fence With no intent and little said Except to note tomorrow’s heat To wipe the brow of dusty sweat To shake a hat against a knee Without complaint, without regret And one recalls the old barn cat That took a sudden skyward leap Her lazy bones responding to The swooping pinch of catbird’s beak What little food to feed the soul A crumb of wit to settle strife A moment worth it’s fleeting foot To look behind and laugh at life When hunger calls the body home When darkness shrouds a field of hay And muscles beg a small reprieve A little chuckle ends the day Elizabeth Santos |

Elizabeth, "A little chuckle ends the day." That is the key to the door of the store. Love you too. Sy |

Liz...this takes me back to a very special April...that time, and you with your beautiful view of life and the way you are able to poem it! |
