When the people we love live way beyond
the reach of a smile, a touch,
and history’s threads taut and stretched
soon on the point of demise,
there comes a time of no sunshine
and no rain to grow happiness.

I see this now and how barren the land
that greets my awakening
and hard, it’s hard, that ground underfoot
with no softness to quell the times ~
and today there’s no “but” to turn around
and be grateful for the other side.

And this in itself a human defect
made perfect by mind’s intellect
and I see this now and how the soul
says it’s okay to grieve the break
for as long as it takes to heal ~
and here is the “but”, the “but”, the “but”,
but how long is it meant to take?

“Forever”, they say, “but choose everyday
the rain, the sun, and the knowing of pain
because love can never be buried
and trampled to death by human defect!”

There is no horror, no abnormity that can not be effected by human intent.  If we are children of god we also are children of satan...and so we may stand in filth and blood and gore of our own affect while reaching for the heavens to cry out, “Why?”

Your writing continues to grown more insightful and more stirring every day.

oh wayfarer, now awakend one, who has compassion on all things, behold the way of speach and teaching together. see evil, for what it is and then concieve disgust for it and with a heart made clean, then  of evil you shall make an end. this is what i got from a lovely, deep, diverse piece, thank you.

Charly - thank you!  Probably just an age thing - you know, when passion spreads its wings but I do very much appreciate you reading and commenting. Thanks!

Helen..."no but"...you know this strikes a cord with me..with "no but" there is no hope of change, yet you speak of love and it needs no "but".  Through time and distance...it is.

Helen, I know all too well exactly what you are saying here as that is where I'm at, too.  Very good read and will hold a special place in my library, my friend....jo

Martie - what you say is true.  Thank you for the reminder.

Jo - There's always comfort in "the knowing" but wouldn't it be great if we could know more about life - about love?
