Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

It's dark and you are gone.
I sit here, eyes blinded by tears
and stubborn blindness
As I cry over stupidity and missed
opportunities to say "Have fun. I love you."
Instead, snot drips from my nose
as I cry and wipe it away
Knowing this is my fear come true
as I sit feeling abandoned
but know that I pushed too hard.
Here is your poem, maybe not
what you wanted, but it is here for you
Stained with my tears and irrational fears
What is wrong?, you have asked.
as I have slipped deeper into a quicksand
of despondency, feeling alone.
Now I am alone
and I am a living example
of the self-fulfilling prophecy.

I learned not all that long ago, that the last chance to tell someone you care creeps upon you with no fanfare what-so-ever. I will never miss another chance. This sums up the feeling of missed oportunity so very well. A lovely write, my friend.

This poem shakes me right down to the roots. What you write here...I AM that. You wrote me.
