Her Story: Lounging in the courtyard Beneath the willow tree Surrounded by her boisterous friends The girl curled up to read She came prepared for all the noise with a player of CD's and earphones to stick in her ears to drown out noise and read in peace She glanced up intermittently to grin at the antics of her friends Then bury herself back in her book Determined to reach the end Upward from her book she glanced and saw him walking toward them, the timid boy moved with resolve as his long strides brought him closer She smiled as she watched him walk across the courtyard lawn then nosedived back into her read, music pumping in her ears fingers drumming to the beat Lost, she was, in the pages, reading of dragons and knights so bold Oblivious to those around her as the story did unfold In the corner of her periphery She spied a pair of feet and looked up to find the boy looking at her expectantly She pulled the earphones from her ears A sheepish smile sent his way "Um, hi, were you talking to me? I'm sorry, what did you say?" He stuttered for a minute his face a blazing red, then pointed to his wrist, "Do you have the time?" He said. ************************* His Story: He had watched her from afar Since the day when first he saw her Too shy to ever approach the girl 'Cause she was one of the 'populars.' He painted pictures in his head A new scenario every day Of all the things he'd say to her, but for courage, the words to convey Months went by, he thought and thought And finally plucked the courage up Today he'd march right up to her And ask to take her out He spied her heading for her tree, her ever present book to read, surrounded by her crazy friends, and nearly lost his nerve. He gave himself a pep talk As across the lawn he strode She sent a smile right to him then, so he was feeling rather bold. He stopped there right beside her and the words came pouring out "Hi, my name is Alexander and I'd love to take you out" "You see, I've often watched you and I wanted so to speak, to get to know you better but you made my knees so weak" "I finally decided that today was a good day to come out here and tell you everything I had to say" "I hope I've not offended and what I've said, you'll think about, since I've finally plucked the courage to come and ask you for a date" She looked up, a little startled, and gave him a shy grin His heart soared to the heavens and he thought, "Oh Gosh, I'm in!" She tugged the earphones from her ears He didn't notice right away, and then he heard the lovely voice, "I'm sorry, what did you say?" He prayed the sun would melt him, with blush, his cheeks did blaze, He stuttered as he tried to think of something intelligent to say. He asked her for the time and with brisk walk he did go, smacking himself in the forehead, under his breath a muttered "D'oh!" |

aww thankies Linda, *smiles* it's an old story that I decided to put in writing, even though I feel it came out a little clunky ... but I can tell ya, the boy was absolutely adorable -- 'cause the girl with the book .. well, that was me *chuckles* glad you enjoyed it! ~*Sheli*~ By words the mind is winged ~Aristophanes~ |

I love you. And I found this bittersweet. It made me smile as I wiped the tears off my cheeks. I love you. |
