I always did wonder how it would end
and if I would still write about you after.
Would my words of poetry sit dormant
like abandoned cobwebs in the rafter?

Would I still listen for my phone to ring
or welcome memories that old songs bring,
or sit in silence with no recall
of the nothing that once was all?

All the time spent wondering,
so many hours to and fro-
life is just too short...
took me awhile but now I know.

sure reminds me of my own writing, in having written poems in this past year, about a past friend, who I have not personally had contact with since 2001

when some memories never do fade, they just grow older

a poet who cares

Dixie - I'm not sure if knowing adequately replaces the heartache but perhaps that's what life is all about - the knowing.  Always enjoy your words!

very much enjoyed the write, Dixie
yep yep, sometimes it takes us
a while to figure that life
is just too short ...
but then we know, eh?
