I saw an incredible woman today A true mother, a good mother With her daughter she was sitting silent Knitting a blanket with great skill and speed I was in aw She looked at her disappointed daughter and said “Why are you angry?” “Because I don’t want to be doing this” “Come here I want to tell you a story A wile ago I had these teeth in the back had to be pulled out And the doctor, because of the swelling he said I could not get all of them I said I was miserable and I just wanted the four taken out and be done with it But he said no and he gave me a drug I don’t know what kind of drug But when I took it, it made me feel really good And it made me fall asleep and I’d wake up and take the medicine again And I told the doctor it makes me feel so great and I said it was really good And the doctor says give me that no more for you” “When was this?” “Oh god a long time ago like oh gees” “I was like 6 when this happened” “Ok yea so like ten years ago And so I had to go to get my citizenship test And before I went I took like two of them And when I got there the room was spinning And the woman tells me to memorize these 5 things And the room is spinning and I tell her the room is spinning And she says no, no just memorize these 5 things So I had to memorize these 5 things wile the whole room is spinning.” The mother who I now adore in my memory was laughing throughout the story She told her this story to calm her child down I almost cry when I think of such a mother to have One who speaks to her child without care for all other people round After all she don’t know me, why should she care But she knows her daughter and loves with a heart none compare For she is a mother a true mother A girl once, who grew up with a mother who loved her too And became a mother as great and as wise and more loving than the mother she had I don’t know if her daughter knows how good she has it I should have told her that she’s more lucky than she knows I should have told the mother she is an incredible person and a good person I didn’t and perhaps for the best She knows what she’s got I love the memory of this mother with all of my heart And I wished her the best life forever from afar I am the two-toed wanderer |
