Spring Cleaning I look out freshly washed windows at colored sheets billowing in the breeze bright plastic clothes pins holding them to the line The furniture shines and smells of lemons, reminding me of sucking sugar off of candy drops, tongue raw as I savor the tangy flavor of summer The sun turns mundane grains of dust into magic and they dance through the golden rays I wonder if I can hold them in my pocket to release on a dismal day of gray oppression knowing that magic is an illusion that drifts away only held in the minds of the innocents, until freed The scent of fresh cut grass permeates my senses taking me back in time to skinned knees, bicycles and braids that can't capture all the wisps of hair Pensively, looking out at the summer flowers I wonder how much more I can clean before I have to clear the dusty boxes of my past to make room for new dreams. aziza |
