Expecting To Fly

Help me somebody
to remember me remembering her
try and see
if I can live even half a life
or should I surrender?

No use in wondering why
standing 'round, expecting to fly

Respected was I
had a love all my own
that made me the envy of all the guys
and I made her my home

Now it's funny (no it ain't)
how love can blow away like leaves
it's not so sunny, I'm feelin' feint
and like a slow fog
I move away from California
dreamless wonder in my hands

No use in giving it a try
wasted my time expecting to fly

Heart's a wax museum
I fell into lies lying to me
she - me, her - him
I'm falling into the sea, you see
poor department store suit
is wet and full of promissary notes
and half-baked hopes
burned like me

Oh why
such a stupid thing, expecting to fly
Icarus, dim the sun
'cause I can't see
'cause I can't be me
and I can't believe
in believing anything, now

No use in little baby cries
gravity pulls at your expecting to fly

Yeah, why
this awful cupid thing, expecting to fly
Hermes, gimme your shoes
'cause I'm in need of speed
her emotions I can't read
and I can't conceive
in any relief for me, now

Oh help me somebody
try to remember surrendering to her
come and lift me
into the light that shine on everybody
everybody but me without her

So please consider, give it a try
'cause I've wasted too much time expecting to fly

So sad - this is very sad.  But, I love to feel emotion when I read poetry, which makes this good in my eyes.

And I loved these lines:

Icarus, dim the sun
'cause I can't see

passing shadows

I can feel with you. But I'm  still hoping to fly, as foolish as it may seem...
Thank you for sharing. This is a very moving poem.

Oh, my! Your sorrowful ~ yet hopeful! ~ words really touched a strident chord within my heart strings. Very expressive writing!

I do believe that since you have the expectation to fly again ~ you will!
