The dancers have all gone home and the mandolin lays in silence. Even the flames of the campfire that once seemed to fandango with the rhythm of the tamborines have now decided to call it a night. The fire light turns to a gentle glow and darkness embraces us both as we lay in each others arms. Hands searching, caressing, clutching. A cool breeze traces our bodies as clouds move in and shield the eyes of the moon, who still manages to occasionally sneak a peek and smile. The frightened shrill cry of a rabbit pierces the darkness, followed by sounds of hurried paws and panting as a coyote dashes across the field in pursuit of his fast fleeing quarry. The hunter changes direction upon hearing the sounds of moaning and darts back into the covering of the forest. A slow and gentle rain begins to fall upon my back as you lay sheltered beneath me and I ease into the wetness. It is you and I who have fallen prey to one another and there is no escape. |
