dancing 'neath the moon

Another stone is laid to rest
In the wall that's being built
The progress slow but steady
As the trowel smooths and fills

The mason toils in silence
Fitting every stone with care
It must be stronger, taller
Than before was ever dared.

To protect the precious thing within
From ever falling to harm
It must be thick, it must be hard
To weather any storm.

The last stone placed, the mason stands
To admire the masterpiece
A wall so cold, so proud, so bold
That few would dare to breech

The needed tools are left outside
For a new builder to start,
In hopes someday a bridge will span
This brand new wall around my heart.

Very well done. Flowed nicely too. Great visual.

I enjoyed this, although it is sad.  I hope that you will find a man who will not only build a bridge across the top of the wall, but, in time, also tear down the wall (and then the bridge that will no longer be needed, will come tumbling down too).

thankies

*smiles* this is an old writing of mine, Owl.  I found the builder.  He's spent years building the bridge that spanned my wall, he just keeps losing his nerve when it comes to building the last few steps

(my post "He says, She says" should tell the rest of the story lol, if you haven't seen it already *grins*)

My father put up walls such as these
in the real...
to protect babies, and puppies
but never to keep love out,
nor sealed in...
THAT... would have taken a roof...

But yes, the metaphor is not lost...

Well done but sad to think a heart needs such a thick wall.  Love, Joyce

no matter how many walls I build, Sunshine,
I can never bring myself to roof it
Always guarded
but
ever hopeful
