I’m so sorry I didn’t go with you to the store today You left without saying goodbye I was asleep You’d done it before And without any thought We needed eggs and salt for breakfast I wish it wasn’t important to me then But it was Skin touching mine Then not in a hurry You wanted to get there before the sun was shining You and your love For the time just before dawn So when you have what you want The sun will be shining brilliant My thoughts then were still And now I’m searching for a good reason I long for your presence We never have the time Your feet walking on our wooden floor I can wish forever We will never have the love I wanted It’s not your fault it’s ours Sun shun threw the window My eyes opened harsh I didn’t hear your back and forth feet Didn’t think about it I drank from the milk carton And turned on the TV to watch paid programming You didn’t walk in When the spokesman told me it was just 29.99 I looked outside the window Empty street and empty sidewalk A ghost town I called your cell phone Your answer wasn’t there I got on sweats and a white shirt and flip-flops Hurried to the door And in between apartments On the staircase below me I hear feet hit the floor A grocery bag rustles I called your name, Caitlin I am the two-toed wanderer [This message has been edited by themute (07-15-2006 04:27 AM).] |
