dancing 'neath the moon

I stare into the empty white
Knowing that I need to write
But I have errands I must do
My cupboard's bare
I've lost my shoes

There's always so, so much to do

I can't begin, there is no time
to organize what's in my mind

Did I water the flowers?
Have the bills been paid?
Where's her project for school
That we just made?

Does the car have gas?
Did I clock out from work?
Did he finish the yard?
No?! What a jerk!

Is that the phone ringing?
Now where did I leave it?
I'd sit down to write,
but the kitchen isn't clean yet.

Once the dog is content,
the cats are done creeping,
and my little munchkin is
Finally sleeping

Maybe tonight, right before bed
I'll have time to weave words
From the thoughts in my head

When my duties are done
And I'm down for the night
I'm nagged by the knowing
That I need to write

My thoughts are still spinning
through my brain in a flurry
My poetry rarely comes in a hurry
I still need time to organize
The words that dance behind closed eyes

But, work comes early in the morn
I need to sleep 'fore dawn is born
Maybe I'll wait just one more night
To paint my soul with my pen
on this canvas of white.

whew, I'm tired...
this reminded me of the mad hatter....

Have you ever heard of the words "Quality Time" for you?

this was fun, loved the rhyme, humor, yet so so true!!!

I'm tired too!  being a single parent and having just moved away from my family last winter, the "quality time for me" times come few and far between .. but i wouldn't trade it for the world

Then write when you can, DC...because you, like all of us, know the need.  It's called "breathing".

I like this -- did you catch those dust bunnies under the couch.  Just thought I'd point them out for you to tackle in your spare time.  You made me smile and I love that in you.

Been there, done that.

I've been busy for so long that now that I *do* have time, it seems I've forgotten how to write.  Or maybe think!

Three cheers for single parents, and hugs for you.

Sunshine:  I do try to make the time, seems my muse and I are on different schedules sometimes though lol ... you just reminded me of one of my favorite lines in a song "loving you is just like breathing" .. hmm I may have to lasso my muse later

zi - the dustbunnies are having a convention under there, I'd hate to interrupt them.  I think they're planning a hostile takeover again -- Always glad to make you smile

Skyfyre - I have times that I feel like that - that I've forgotten how to write or think lol .. I call them "Ooo donuts! days"  -- but that's mostly because I'm so scatterbrained and can't complete a thought without getting sidetracked to something else lol

Hope - I do try to make time just for me, sometimes it even works! lol

lol at the dust bunny list
and as I look around my room
which isn't tidy, though basically clean
I can relate, as I've just recently hugged my daughter a be safe but happy au revoir
she is 18, and flew the coup, so-to-speak
and some days, I feel as if I have TOO much free time, haven't yet learned how to fill it wisely with MY own agenda, and spend far too much time spacing out in cyberspace

I agree with the thought of the Mad Hatter..
Wheww!  This poem made me tired.

Seriously,  a welcome piece of poetry that
is sane and lighthearted...

I love this! Perfectly written to describe the very hectic life of a single parent!
