After-Child
~*Marge Tindal*~

Skirting dark
to find light
meek and mild
the after-child
crying the night
shrinks from hands
that stole innocence
from her youthful body
implanting it with fright
everlasting a-time-of-life
memory rearing its ugly head
when later her sleepy-time came
begging for the soft bed of dreams
to take her farther beyond the blame
of those evil menacing hands that groped
leaving indelible palm prints of enduring shame

~Because I still mentor young people, and life stories don't always write pretty poetry~

~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~

you're so right, life doesn't always write pretty poetry
and the frightening, heart wrenching poems
are needed just as much as the feel-good ones. It's the stuff of life.

Very thought provoking, thank you

There are some things in life that cannot be swept under the rug,
and they do not write pretty poetry.
Well said Marge..
this happens far far too often.
Thank you for touching gently on such a delicate topic.

Heart hugs, Nance

For it was not into my ear you whispered
But into my heart..
It was not my lips you kissed
But my soul.

Life sees very little pretty poetry these days it seems.  Very great job on this.

All young people are not out raising Hell... Some are living it. Thanks for the reminder.

Dear Marge:  It's so tragic that stories like this are true. As a mentor, I'm sure you hear about this all too often. One wonders how these young people ever recover to lead useful lives.
