SATURDAY NIGHT December 1998 I turned off the squawking television and the glaring electric light and heard soul-soft summer rain courting the whisper of the wind, and saw my night-black trees in their lacy underwear dancing erotically in anticipation. Soft, soft distant tyres swished their rainwet encouragement and, intermittently, a dog applauded from afar. This is why I have to be alone. - Owl |

Wow! Fantastic piece of writing, dear Diana. You made me smile, because of the last sentence ... you mean someone might profit from your creative interpretation of rain ... or it could also mean that if you were not alone you would not have perceived these sounds and visions. Love, Margherita |

I am alone for two weeks at a time since my roommate is an offshore boat captain...I do so enjoy those two weeks when he's gone...and then I have no peace or privacy during the two weeks he's home... I understand this poem so well...SO well |

Thank you Margherita. Giggles, no, I don't mind somebody profiting from my perceptions! Neither did I mean that I wouldn't have perceived those things if I hadn't been alone. What I meant was that I wouldn't have had the freedom to understand, enjoy and appreciate them. Thanks, Nancy. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. Dixie, yes, I can WELL imagine how well you understand this. Solitude can be so very beautiful and peaceful. I know many people who can't be alone for long. I am one who needs to be alone (except for animals) most of the time. - Owl |

I understand why you need to be alone Diana... for soul-soft summer rain. I need to be alone for desert mockingbirds that sing in the still of night... except of course for my animals. Perfectly done. |

I like this. On first reading the poem does not necessarily suggest the last line, but after reading the last line the poem can suggest nothing else. Thanks for posting it. PLEASE VISIT MY REGULARLY UPDATED WEB SITE http://www.anthonyarmstrong.zoomshare.com |

Thanks, Kate, for understanding (as you always do!). I can understand too how you need to be alone to appreciate the desert mockingbirds. Thanks, shirtless, for understanding and appreciating the essence of the poem. - Owl |
