I wander into the desert aching to feel the midday sun burn bearing down on me taking my breath away my bare feet slide over hot sand tiny bells at my ankles the only sound where the cactus blooms purple there is water sweet clear from mountain snow it slides over red rock splashes into sand pool I trail my fingers in the coolness dream people places that live only on the border of my soul serpent sleeping on warm rock lifts his head stares at me with hooded eyes wonders what foolish creature dares disturb his reverie it is said serpents are afraid of humans shall I stay if he kills me it shall only be a small death |

So vivid are your words, as to take me to the place of your muse. So peaceful. TD |

where the cactus blooms purple there is water sweet clear from mountain snow it slides over red rock splashes into sand pool Your "heat" made me thirsty and the above lines beautifully stilled my thirst... We can still our thirst with beauty ... Thank you! Love, Margherita |

Lady A small death...I've written those words, yet wonder if any death ever is. Very poignant feeling to this. |

Very sad and ominous... It makes you want to reach out and tell this person that they are not alone. |

That’s a good question. Perhaps even the smallest death has great meaning. Thank you Serena, for your kind reply. |

Oh, I enjoyed the walk in the hot, hot desert with you so very much, celebrated the burning sun, admired the cactus blooms, was mesmerised by the coolness of the water, but by the time you saw the snake, you had got too far ahead of me so that you couldn't hear my voice calling out to you not to fear him, as he would only hurt you if you threatened him - and being who you are you wouldn't, so he (or she?) wouldn't. I loved your ending - I don't know what that special meaning is that you alluded to, to Magnus, but I saw the death as both powerful and paradoxically peaceful - a sort of fading into Nature (and thus a sort of rebirth in a different form) - it had a sort of Little Prince feel about it - remember when the snake bit him and he seemed to have died, but was actually transported back to his own planet. Thus the death you referred to seemed more a translocation/transformation than a death. - Owl |

Oh Diana. You read me so well. I heard you tell me not to fear him. That’s why I dared stay. The small death is both powerful and paradoxically peaceful! I remember the snake from the Little Prince and my small death is precisely that… a breathless, wonderful transformation. Hugs to you and the furry ones. |

Thank you Stranger. If I do not fear perhaps I shall discover the truth. |
