5484 Carry Me Near 21 June 2006 Her South African beauty her Canadian strength Each eye, each apple this prayer given in strength Carry me home, hold me near Guard my heart take away that fear For where was love when you were born Where was hope when they gave me scorn Where was beauty that which she does hold Where was glory now I’m too old Carry me back, carry me forth Carry my love and hold that near No matter what, no matter fear “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11: 1 KJV © 2006 Christopher W Herbert (a New Zealand Poet) a poet who cares |

this one concerns me, because I discovered I have used the word strength in the opening stanza, twice. only no matter how much I look at this poem, the only other option is to read as Her South African beauty her Canadian strength Each eye, each apple this prayer given in length and given that option, I find the poem, even if by a possible error on my part, does better with the word 'strength' twice, as I find it hard to have such faith in any alternative view. so what was a mistake on my part, looks like it is there to stay, because I cannot bring myself to change anything at all a poet who cares |
