I Can’t Warm to the Chill I can’t warm to the chill of time That un-passionate space of eternity meant for healing, But seemingly is temperate only to beauty--- As the un-watered rose can attest Returning to what it knows until the next bloom; So to does the desolate lover, who returns to heartbreak… I can’t warm to the chill of her parting words, That sweet condescending voice of my admiration, Singing in chords and daggers that explode into my glass soul--- Sharp and accurate splinters that embed into my consciousness, Causing warm memories to bleed into a cold past--- Canals that merge into my veins, Pumping pain into the skies before the rain. “Don’t want to shed dry tears” “These snowflakes from my heart” Wish I could get that tune out of my head, It rings back and forth like a chime reminding the hour; My hands cannot warm to the chill of these words, Fingers brittle to the echoes of those last intimate moments, Pen falling to a hidden place of imaginary love ever-after, A figment I now believe myself to be Of a heartbreaker’s dream. Your words hollow out the walls that can build an empire of pent up pain. So very moving, as you convey a reality that no human being chooses, but we all must confront in renewal of the spirit. Well done. TD |
