chalk dusted coveralls and a big red bandana
that never quite covered all the strands
that blew astray night and day

ruddy face cheeks, flappin in the breeze
riding gunshot on the rails
and eatin in greasy spooned diners

these were his survivalist dreams
and perhaps, her worst nightmares?

my uncle wore those striped coveralls,
set the brakes for too many years,
ignoring my auntie’s fears and tears

but he made it through to retirement,
just to fall out of his chair
onto a cold un-moveable silent floor

and he took with him many memories
of chatting with the ‘bos,
enjoying the chalk talk of the rails

This one felt like it was straight from the heart, Kacy -- it must be true.  Some people just MUST keep moving, I think.   ....jo

smiling here, yep...'tis some true stuff

Uncle Clarence told me some hobo stories, including one that made Auntie Helen throw a rock-hard biscuit at his head. LOL

gleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

thank you so much my spirit sistah!

the rhythms of the rails, I think it's something I've always found soothing, and you captured it for me, here.

I have to run for now, but I'll be back. and thank you

Sue? I also inherited my aunt's ability to make rock biscuits...you should see what my corn muffins looked like this morning
~anchors are lighter~ LOL
and someone named Larry C dredged up a poem tonight from another forum
daddy was a runaway...
which may clue you in to another inherited trait of mine
my wanderings and my ponderings have meaning....

laughing at those rock biscuits...

and Sue?...
you'd be scary with that
recipe in your possession... LOL

I really enjoyed this, Kacy...

I'm with K...
I've always had a great appreciation
for the 'rhythm of the rails'...

You've penned this perfectly...

Vicky, I had forgotten about this write, and was quite surprised to see it riding the blue rails today. Thanks for the visit!
