I have made love
with three women
who’ve attempted suicide

two, before they knew me,
never after;
Jane, before she loved me,
and then she loved the razor
in the echo of our laughter

when I remember the two,
I am not the shepherd
and they are not the lost

but when I remember Jane,
my body is a nail
and my bed is the cross
