My friend Martie savors life
in colors I can only dream,
from the first it seemed to me
she wears a cloak of clean awareness
woven from realities most fine and simple threads,
like the gift of primary colors
all hues and shades are in her reach;
I wish she could teach me
how to see with such clarity,
with dignity,
with the calm that comes from knowing,
and to paint it with the simple strokes
beguiling harsh complexities
that so often tangle up my thoughts;
in those few times
when I am able to throttle down my mind
she helps me catch a glimpse,
an awareness of being,
stretching just beyond my reach,
of sharing as an equal partner
in the life of all existence.

if she has been your teacher, it seems that you have been her gifted student.  Lovely tribute.  Joyce

Oh goodness, I wish she could teach me, too, Iceman!!
Martie has such a gentle spirit and it shows
very clearly in her writing....not only her
poetry, but her replies as well. She is very special!!
Hugs to you both,
Ethel

You brought to mind a colorful poem
that I once wrote for our Martie...
and I think it needs to see the light
of day again...

thank you for this, Sir...

You sure nailed her!  She sees "into" things I swear, and can write about their make-up like no one else that's for sure.  I think her perception was increased by a special spirit that resides within her heart and soul, or else, could be she just came "talented?"   Nice work on this.

I think she has an edge on all of us...her
past occupation lends toward the ability
to kick butt in all sorts of colors and
hues....

Martie is certainly deserving of the words
that you have so aptly written...during
those moments when things slow down.  I do
understand.

Martie

On a gentle smile lightening a world, did you take the trouble of a step from that railway line for a moment, that always offers destinations and stops as you took trouble for those of us who lack the fare

Did you just make a lot of people understand and think

In my soul Martie

There was someone who when I was fighting to get words I could print, never mind write

There was someone called Martie

Who I never knew

And I still dont, because that would be unseemly in an image and thoughts as you are

How you have captured her essence. Your words, like Matie's, are far beyond my reach, and I don't attempt even half the climb. This is a touching tribute to Martie and to the frienship and love that we all feel towards her. How she does inspire us and brings out the best of our aesthetic qualities in verses such as this.
Thank you
