Destitution From distant places come the cries That echo in the eastern skies I hear a mother sadly weep Within the silence of my sleep In what dark corners do you dwell? What truth have you declined to tell? Your endless fear and daily dread Invade the comfort of my bed How many days do you survive Without the food to stay alive? Your pain takes an eternal seat Beside the table where I eat What can I do? What can I say? But fall upon my knees to pray And there upon my carpet plea That God erase your poverty But God has fixed his sacred goal Toward destitution of the soul And you, my friend, have carved a space To lay your soul in heaven’s place And you were first upon your knee To pray for someone such as me Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (05-14-2006 11:30 PM).] |

Beautiful motion of your heart. No, we can't be happy, knowing that there are multitudes who live in misery. Prayers are the seeds, out of which the actions need to bloom. God wants the wellbeing of all of His creatures. He has planted love in our hearts and He has given us the means to help each other. But humans have not yet learned to use them efficiently. Thank you for expressing the beauty of your heart. Love, Margherita |

Tragic situation, lovely poem, beautiful heart, and a philosophical and wise ending, that is perhaps the beginning of the solution. - Owl |

It is sad, isn't it? And here we sit, comfortably while someone else is out there wondering if they will eat at all that day or if the weather will allow them to rest peacefully. Thank you for giving us this, that we might reflect and put our lives more in perspective. |

Prayer does so much, and we ALL need to pray for one another, no matter what our circumstances may be. ~sky I hope someday you get the chance to live like you were dying.... |

it never ceases to amaze me, the surplus we have, the wealth we live in, and yet, there are people suffering so...thank you gracious lady for the greatness of you... |

I felt the prayers of your heart as many others did. May we all pray for others as prayers are contagious and many will benefit. A very loving moving write. thanks for sharing, picturegramic |

This touches the depths of my soul. How difficult it is to swallow the most delicious foods while a sister starves. Yet your last line is awesome...she first prayed for us. God works in strange ways. Rae |
