deceptive is the calm, for the channel is deep and treacherous and now for the likes of one, a young man who felt the channel safe to cross the final moment, grim now, a family does weep the deep secrets of the channel, and friends hold hearts in hand to say goodbye oh, when will we ever believe mother nature is not always a kind benefactor, she sometimes takes at will and it is a moment of reflection here for those who must say goodbye today to a fourteen year old boy who did not reach the other side of the river Adios, RIP Tony |

This is so sad. You're right-the illusion of being safe is just that. Thought provoking poem! Rest well. misc'e |

Thanks for reading, Cathy. I know it isn't a pleasant write, but just something I had to do today. It's so sad, when someone underestimates the force and power of flowing water. It may look calm, but underneath the surface, a river can be churning, and carrying debris that entangles the feet. His friend made it across safely Fourteen is too young to die for a mistake. |

I'm so very sorry, Kacy. Yes, fourteen IS too young to die for a mistake. Hugs and warm Milo (I hope it's called that in USA so that you know what I mean). - Owl |

thanks friends. Milo...no, Diana, I am not familiar with this. AHA! I looked it up on the net and found out it's a Nestle product, a nutritious drink [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (05-11-2006 06:40 PM).] |

Glad you found it, but as you haven't tasted it, I will have to make that hot cocoa instead. (I think it is called that everywhere.) Milo looks a bit like cocoa, but the grains are larger and milo is a warmer brown and it tastes rich and chocolately and malty (I would imagine it contains some malt, but I am not sure, but you probably saw that on the internet). Wishing you solace, warmth and peace Hugs - Owl |

Kacy, I just read your reply. I, too, am grateful you wrote this, as I have known very good swimmers to be overcome by the force of water. One died in a canoeing accident about the same age. No matter of one's skills, MN is always more powerful. (As we tend to be masters of power simulation, sometimes I forget from where the real power stems...) cathy |

Arche, yes, it is terribly sad. Cathy, it's a horrid way to learn that lesson. |

Yes, it is, and I wish I could do something to make it better, but again I find I am helpless. I'll send healing thoughts your way and to his family. Wish I could do more. hugs, cathy |
