An Astral Fantasy

Lazy waves wash over
the chipped porcelain lip
of the old claw-foot tub
as I ease myself into a bubbly retreat
of much needed silence.

A pile of denim lies over my discarded shirt,
soaking up the rose scented water.
The midnight blue stain grows
with every drop surrendered.
The radio echoes behind me,
softly cooing aromatic classics
in vibrant hues of audible pleasure.

Random thoughts run freely,
as my mind drifts closer and closer
to an unconscious freefall.
My eyelids flutter, close and
relax with each deliberate breath.

The music slowly retreats to the real,
as I retreat to the place that only exist
behind the thoughts that animate me.

Farther and Farther I drift,
until I am standing at the edge of the
desert sands and I know I have come
to the realm of the spirits.

I smile.  I am free here.  My thoughts,
my movements become lucid as my
spirit forgets the confinements of my body
and it remembers the beauty and
sanctity of being truly alive.

I can only stay awhile as the real beckons;
its purpose strong and willful--

I succumb.

The real secludes me once again
and I remain here its slave, its abandonment
of truth.

I am envious--those old claw foot tubs were the best. And that quiet time to renew the spirit, mind, and body is pure resuscitation!  That is just a dream around my house.  LOL  Great poem!

It's simply delightful Liz. I love the way you eased yourself from the tub to your desert.

Welcome!
