When the scorching heat of the day
burns well beyond the outer shell,
and buries itself deeply into my thin skin,
I dream of a comforting coolness
that resides within the hidden shelter
of a solitary midnight.
Stellar constellations offer some consolation,
a prize I find myself receiving again
while waiting for the grand prize.

Passionate nights go unattended,
but not for lack of opportunity.
The tides know, with their give-and-take.
A full moon reassures me it will be
a blessing in disguise
to stand alone on these golden shores.
I am not convinced, but acquiesce.
Cicadas sing, and bullfrogs croak a rowdy note
in the marshes and wetlands.
All manner of creatures proclaim
the Earth is their domain,
yet only one claims to know the Creator.
I ponder the moment.
When day is done and the songs are all sung,
who turns off the skylights?

Hi

“If a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound?”

I always thought that was a silly question. When the tree falls and of course make a sound, as it must, if the laws of physics are to be believed, does it mater?  This question arrogantly assumes that nothing of consequence can exist outside the human experience. So then is Shakespeare right when he said “All the world is a stage and we are merely actors in it.” What of God? Can he/She/It exist outside the human experience?  If evolution is to be believed did God existed in the beginning and did he bring about all that is including evolution? When all the songs are song and humankind is only an echo in the dark void of space, and a footnote on God’s architectural plan did Shakespeare get it right when he said “It was all sound and fury signifying nothing.”

Ps. John Heresy wrote in the “Single Pebble” Where doest the flame go once the fire is out?”
