Vintage Heart

I know I'm a man,
and I don't look at things the way you do.
I know I'm just a man,
and I don't know everything it's true.
But when I look upon that broken heart of yours,
I think of the mountians high,
and how timeless beauty always endures.

Avalanche, earthquake, and raging storm,
may come and go.
But that mountian is no less beautiful.
Don't you know?

I think of the salmon,
that's lived it's life at sea,
but fights it's way back home again,
forever to be free.

Though battered and bruised
on up the stream it goes.
I think a heart like yours,
must know what the salmon knows.

I think of an automobile,
that's somehow survived the challenge of the road,
one that's been used and carried a heavy load.
Parked somewhere in a field of dreams,
waiting to be restored.
Waiting for someone with an eye for beauty,
to once more be adored.

Waiting for someone who can see the beauty,
that lies just beneath the faded paint.
Someone who can see your beauty,
even when you yourself just can't.

Waiting for someone,
who can repair all the broken parts.
This is what I see,
when I look upon your lovely vintage heart.

Certainly a tender and understanding write.  Yeah - I'd want someone to look at my vintage heart too but not many can.  Enjoyed this, Steven!

Thank you so much Honeybunch, on this side of the pond we're kinda car crazy. :-)
My favorite has always been the Chey Corvette but It seemed I could never afford one. I found one a while back that someone had hid away for years. They had over heated it and there was lots of major engine damage. I couldn't have bought it if it had been in good working order but the price was right so I brought that sweet little darling home. I also bought some repair books for that model 1980 and...

I won't go into what a sweet ride she is:-) but the moral of the story is I loved her before I found her and she is becomeing more valuable everyday that passes. :-)P.S. There's always a good mechanic out there somewhere! :-)

Steven - having myself been into restoring old things I can well understand how precious your car is to you.  May you have many more sweet rides.
Hey - at my age I know there aren't any heart mechanics around so maybe I'll join the car brigade and look for one with heart.     But no, I love my little bright orange runabout - she keeps me changing and changing while traveling in a straight line and there must be something good in that.
Take care!
Helen

"I think a heart like yours,
must know what the salmon knows."

It is that inner knowledge,
inborn, mystical, the pull...

Vintage heart...
Vintage write.
