A Mother’s Travail

18 December 2005

Children by numbers born
a mother to carry and then bare
This naked child to life
only days he did ground face

Second to oldest - but elder to live
forty in five years a target never to be
For who was the ageist in sister now
while another son did open his heart

A mothers loss miscarried to term
her travail in number five
To thank God her youngest
was in Christ born alive

Six days of birth - out lived in child
this parenthesis to father in sum
Her three children she remained to hold
her own being frail in entity all told

a poet who cares
