Sometimes your memory is like
a warm blanket around my heart,
wrapping me in happiness, bringing a
smile, giving me hope.

Most times, it's like a gut wrenching
gasp of icy water, forcing tears
from eyes left dry from too much
crying, leaving me to contemplate
forever without you.

I see the tree you so lovingly
planted when it was no bigger than
our newborn son. It will grow with him
you said. Now it droops, without love
to tend it because without you there
isn't enough love to go around.

And again your memory crashes over me as
I open a dresser drawer and the scent
of you spills out.

I stagger to the bed, clutching the
shirt you last wore, warm and living.
Now it's just a fading scent of my
favorite aftershave.

How do I, how do I get through
the next moment, much less the rest
of my life without you?
How do I see the world when I
no longer have your eyes to show
me the beauty?

How do I raise our son?

wow...I've been there and done it and didn't even get a shirt... but things do get better, over time

I hated that when people said that to me...but it's true.

Sending your way

My heart goes around you in this moment.  Your son is a part of Love which will bless you beyond measure.  I wish you peace and healing thoughts as much good to come into your days.

Incredible piece of writing here, it manages to convey a depth of emotion without being maudlin. I'm sorry for your loss but not sorry for the emotion that inspired this.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

As I have learned over and over again...when our world seems to collapse all around us...we have to create a new world...and it is a challenge...James
