3166 A Shadow of Reflection 19 October 2003 When you look behind the shadow of each word Do you fit truth in the secret heard Or was there another shade to such a spirit expressed The idea of beauty from an element of hate and anger addressed For this may be the reality of a tactician of words so placed That the truth was an understanding somewhere about faced In a reflection of days combating all a tide against As if these works were a cry of forgiveness for one whom daily repents “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery [elders]. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting [progress, advancement] may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” 1 Timothy 4: 12, 14-16 KJV [words in brackets added] © 2006 Christopher W Herbert (a New Zealand Poet) a poet who cares |
