Strength has a penchant for running away; he’s a fighter, you see, of my impulses to hug and closet him so but I find him again most every day under the shade of a tree counting, counting, counting, as if it helps to know. Though I stand as a woman undone I’ve learnt to ignore withdrawal and so proceed to reel him back in with only a woman’s need grown lopsided and out of proportion to the laws and norms of reality. But this, oh, so spry and vagabond chap artfully plans another adventure back into the counting, counting, counting, on fingers and toes that everyone knows is a sign of the mentally lost. Yet, and yet, I do want him back because he’s only counting the cost should I, if I could, ignore the ghost of love’s haunting memory and take on the guise of the satisfied. And so I ride the waves of desire and suffer the pain of abandonment in accordance with Strength’s every whim while deciding inside how to punish a child for counting, counting, the cost to me underneath the shade of a tree! I have counters in my life..and I love them madly.. There are a lot worse addictions and/or afflictions. I say ride it. "too bad ignorance isn't painful" |
