In the Dusty Din of Time (repost from Parker's earth day challange, 4-16-01) In the dusty din of time a mountain was a prairie fine and oceans joined and rivers strained then flowed into tall fields of grain In this that has been so immense it’s hard to think of minutes spent this rain that slants across my path climactic change might take at last ‘til the ground is parched and dry and carrion thrive as others die and rationed precious is the brew that now we pour without a clue or thought to what will ere become of that the bridge our life has strung for we have trouble thinking more than life beyond our own front door In the dusty din of time this land of ours will show the sign and what was mountain might be stream for change is part of life it seems How could this lasting loving earth be better for this thoughtful verse? |

"for we have trouble thinking more than life beyond our own front door" Sadly that is a great problem today but, Martie, I am much better for having read your poem and so it will snowball. Helen |

Martie, your poem is so thoughtful. Changes in this era are major even in the landscape and certainly in the way people view living. The earth has been good to us, but we have abused her a great deal and some of the effect are going to be devastating, I think. I so appreciated this one. It is good to be conscious of our blessings and protect them! Thank you for sharing. ~ Karen |

Wow... I Loved reading your poem. A gentle reminder of our not so gentle ways. Thanks for sharing. Mia Rainclouds lie in your tears, sunshine in your heart. When you cry from happiness, you glow as a rainbow. - Marie-Ève C. |

I think about things like this sometimes Martie when I'm holding a piece of marble in my hands millions of years old. Some with fossils of both plants and tiny aquatic animals. Thanks for the magic carpet ride! :-) |

"How could this lasting loving earth be better for this thoughtful verse?" Because the mind in which it was conceived believed enough to share the thought and in the sharing brought to bear a sense of care and understanding that lifts us all a little bit. *smile* |

sadly for this one, the beauty is lost in the rhyme when the rhyming and pattern appears forced such is my honest opinion and is why not all poets succeed yet for the share enjoyment of writing a poet who cares |

How could this lasting loving earth be better for this thoughtful verse? It may be that what you have expressed in this poem is the very best road to walk on this or any other day. You've always told me -- by example -- that by doing everything you do in life as an act of loving care, you make the world a better place. Loving care for the world itself has to be the answer. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

Martie, I love this for so many reasons - to mention just a few: the rhythm and rhyme (I seldom enjoy rhyme or a regular rhythm, but you have done this so elegantly and naturally, and your thoughts in this poem lend themselves so beautifully to rhyme and a regular rhythm), the nature (the nature, the nature), the care of the environment, the sandwiching of the title, the philosophy, the truth, the art, all sculpted into a living, breathing cameo. - Owl |

I had never read this one before. May the changes we have helped set into motion be gentler on our future inhabitants than what many environmental scientists have predicted. You are always so much in tune with Mother's heartbeat. Healing thoughts for you, as well as our Mother Nature. |
