Still Life

See this shape like vase of vernal verve
Constructed like the slide from waist to hip
Soft the eye lingers within the curve
That glistening condensation’s not a trick

The sweet pea’s pink head leans to curled tendril
And with a soft ear of listening hears it sing
Like dusk in summer slow it barely trembles
Think fearless of time’s treachery she would fling

She loves the vessel where the water lives
A gift to urgency unseen it gives
To beauty of a flower blooming real
This sensual still life knows how water feels

"This sensual still life knows how water feels"

A beautiful line this, as were the entire poem. And, if I may ask, where did you get your name, sounds scandinavian

beautiful Martie...

and I love your work always, but when you rhyme you are downright intriguing.

Your use of assonance as rhyme is the second stanza is just so right--

the "tendril" to "trembles"

I learn something new from you with every read.

Androginous....My last name I got from my husband...it's Norwegian.  My first name is really Martha, but Martie was the name I became when I was given choice.  Thanks for reading....and Sissie, thanks for helping me with that photo.  Serenity, don't give up on rhyme...you do it so perfectly...I learn from you!   to all!  I'm so glad it's finally spring!!

Sensual still life is right!  Earlier, I love the way you compared the shape of the vase with the human body... very sensual indeed.

Wonderful!  When I was a potter, I used to focus on that shape for most vases and tall jars.  I think it is a line that is wired into my brain.

Beautiful lines throughout Martie. I love these in particular. Nicely drawn.

Your gentle eyes simply see things that almost no one else can ever experience....unless they read your poetry. I've said it so often that it's almost trite, but it's true -- when I read your words, I want to be there....and in some ways, I am.

And the picture....makes me happy just to see it, Martie-girl...that's a Sweet Pea, I think, and how appropriate!

Martie, you did it! You wrote an exceptionally lovely poem about
our nicknames! I'm glad you beat
me to it because this one is so
lovely that mine would pale in
comparison!

Here are some sweetpeas that I
picked just for you!

As if the poem calls, to speak
Directly to me: Opening to read,
I am not suprised...

That I am handed once again, a key
To open natures door and see
The hidden things, that normal words
Cannot reveal to me.

A delightful read, my dear poet friend...

Martie~

such a beautiful stillness... you write with such love...always.....

And so it those we live with
and should know who elude us
But we can still love them
we can love completely
without complete understanding

Oh, Martie! this poem breathes a life all its own in the soft rhyme and imagery of the water and flowers.  I adore sweet peas, their color, their fragrance, the tenacious tendrils curling green and tender. Your poem is art!  I love your poetic style!
