Still Life See this shape like vase of vernal verve Constructed like the slide from waist to hip Soft the eye lingers within the curve That glistening condensation’s not a trick The sweet pea’s pink head leans to curled tendril And with a soft ear of listening hears it sing Like dusk in summer slow it barely trembles Think fearless of time’s treachery she would fling She loves the vessel where the water lives A gift to urgency unseen it gives To beauty of a flower blooming real This sensual still life knows how water feels --- 4-27-02 |

"This sensual still life knows how water feels" A beautiful line this, as were the entire poem. And, if I may ask, where did you get your name, sounds scandinavian Love "How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! |

beautiful Martie... and I love your work always, but when you rhyme you are downright intriguing. Your use of assonance as rhyme is the second stanza is just so right-- the "tendril" to "trembles" I learn something new from you with every read. |

She loves the vessel where the water lives A gift to urgency unseen it gives To beauty of a flower blooming real This sensual still life knows how water feels Sensual still life is right! Earlier, I love the way you compared the shape of the vase with the human body... very sensual indeed. misc'e |

"See this shape like vase of vernal verve Constructed like the slide from waist to hip" Wonderful! When I was a potter, I used to focus on that shape for most vases and tall jars. I think it is a line that is wired into my brain. *smile* (nice pictureT) |

Your gentle eyes simply see things that almost no one else can ever experience....unless they read your poetry. I've said it so often that it's almost trite, but it's true -- when I read your words, I want to be there....and in some ways, I am. And the picture....makes me happy just to see it, Martie-girl...that's a Sweet Pea, I think, and how appropriate! ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> ______________Ratleader______________ |

As if the poem calls, to speak Directly to me: Opening to read, I am not suprised... That I am handed once again, a key To open natures door and see The hidden things, that normal words Cannot reveal to me. A delightful read, my dear poet friend... ---------ice/ford ><> |

Oh, Martie! this poem breathes a life all its own in the soft rhyme and imagery of the water and flowers. I adore sweet peas, their color, their fragrance, the tenacious tendrils curling green and tender. Your poem is art! I love your poetic style! ~ Klassy ~ |
