It is simple smiles on little mouths transform into jaded laughter the pig tails bounced with joy now fall plainly on her back it was a miracle she survived this long mistakes ours punish her and the little girl who played hop scotch sits alone at the window clinging to soft curtains watching the wind It is simple |
