Trace with the finger of intent,
edging a cliff of neuroses.
I witnessed your mercurial dissent.

I think of it occasionally.
Derogatory adjectives
roll from tongue so eloquently.

Oh how the smile broadens to know
from by lines
lonely words you bestow.
Acceptance will never be felt.
The cards
are as you dealt.

Tap, tap, and swill
Fingers so deftly looking for
nightly thrill.
Buzz soaking acceptance.
Blessed are the demented,
for this there is no repentance.

Cycle through them with astute recall.
What you look for
can’t possibly fool them all.
Nor does anything last forever.
Fans grow tired and

You cease to matter

Susan,

Great poem! I like the tongue-in-cheek effect and the humor and then, out of nowhere, that overpowering death blow of the last line. Just fantastic.

packin that punch again, you have that way Susan....I appreciate that about you.....

And so it those we live with
and should know who elude us
But we can still love them
we can love completely
without complete understanding

Brava on that finishing 'coup de grace' stroke!

I love it when your strong side sings!
