"Here in silence, is twelve more."

And once again, the PBS evening news leaves me
dangling, hanging in stinking putrifying air,
holding onto the same question I ask each day:
When will we stop this bloody senseless war?
When shall we say no more, and mean it?
When will we pull the plug on the war machinery?
Please, don’t answer this
if all you can offer me is the same lame excuses
I’ve heard a thousand times before.
It’s all about freedom.
Yeah. Right.
The very same freedoms we trample at home day-by-day?
Some say those retired generals should keep their mouths shut,
that they have no right to badmouth
the commander's main man.
I say, give them the microphones and turn up the volume.
And if this bothers you? what I say is,
you have the right to turn away.
You even have the right to disagree.
But you don’t have the right to shut me up.
No, only the final commander-in-chief has that right.
And so far, he always tells me what I say is OK.

In total agree, Kacy!  This is a very sensitive subject with me these days.  My son wants to sign up.  You know my thoughts on this, but he has been brainwashed with recruiters calling him, visiting him at high school (he's only 17) and they have been calling him since he was 14 years old -- can you believe it?!!!  The generals and all the servicemen are sworn FRIST to defend the Constitution.  That is their highest duty.  I believe the ones who have come forward are doing just that in their way.  The moment we can no longer voice our opinions is the "day the music" dies (my interpretation of Bye, Bye American Pie.)

Thank you, Jo. It must be a really difficult time for you. I cannot imagine my 18 year old going off to a warzone. She IS leaving in a week though, to continue her equestrian apprenticeship. I shall miss her terribly, but as she is only moving a four hour drive from me, it's not as if it's the other side of the world. Horses kick and bite, but don't point weapons, thank God!
I hope your son stays home, goes to college or gets a job instead.

Well done, again, Midnitesun, our bravest soldier for peace and right!

Some horses bite and kick (if they came across, cruel and/or negligent and/or ignorant humans at some stage of their lives - but mostly they love.  I am emerald green with envy of your daughter.

My heart goes out to you, iliana.

Well said, Kacy.  We are stuck in another quagmire and this president says "Leave it to the next president to solve??"  What hath we wrought?  Speak loudly, Kacy, we need to hear you.  Ken

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light
