Subtle Poison I rolled it in my hands when young Without the feeling being stung But youth is when we test our strength And we go to almost any length Quick silver stays within the lane A subtle poison drives you insane Delivering light a bright summers view Infecting the form of mornings dew It flows like the tide of a river Affecting the mind and the liver Slowly building a delta of mud Where nothing can grow or come to bud It is a poison of subtle drain Once ingested there’s no refrain It works its way into your mind Until your eyes and thoughts are blind So do not touch quick silvers bright No matter how bright the light |

Good morning, Sir Sonneteer! "So do not touch quick silvers bright No matter how bright the light" ~ I consider myself duly warned! All that glitters is not gold! ~ But of course, you are the exception to that rule! Love you, T-Man! EA |

Wise words Seymour. Too many good people have fallen prey to this temptation. hugs, Chris Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance. |

Very good, See More "It is a poison of subtle drain Once ingested there’s no refrain It works its way into your mind Until your eyes and thoughts are blind" This poem could stand as metaphor for many different things...first love, first drink, first illicit drug....etc... But I'll enjoy it at its face value... _______ ____ice ><> |

Good Lord! Yes, I remember playing with Mercury as a kid Someone always seemed to have a small vial of it...I recall being awed by the way it married itself to a quarter (Silver, in those days) Now, I feel lucky to recall anything at all |

Some lessons we learn too late, but maybe that's just our own perception. A lesson learned is a lesson learned, yes? Beautifully written, Sy. jo |

Dear Sy interesting write, enjoyed the message... I'm guessing that a quick silver is some sort of alcoholic beverage ~hugs~ Tracie Love is the life of the soul... |

Goodness, so much can be gleaned here for I saw a poisonous relationship in that silver: It flows like the tide of a river Affecting the mind and the liver Slowly building a delta of mud Where nothing can grow or come to bud |

I read this as Pabst Blue Ribbon's silver can being lifted to drain a liver of its life... I agree with ICE, it could be a metaphor for many things... great write! hugs, g "We of the craft are all crazy...all are more or less touched." Lord Byron |

Sy...I remember as a young mother, shaking down the thermometor and shaking it right out of my hand....of course it broke into many little round pieces of mercury that had the kids facinated...luckily I knew it was dangerous. Can't remember how I cleaned it up...except that it was tricky. Enjoyed this as I enjoy all your poetry! PS How do you clean it up? |

I'm with wranx... feeling lucky to recall at all... for mercury fascinated me and I'd sneak any opportunity to play with those wondrous shining globules... Fortunately, such opportunities were few, far between and very VERY brief... my mother had eyes in the back of her head... and both sides, too! LOL You wrote this beautifully, my friend... so many things are pretty to look at... and pure poison. Well done!! |
