Cancer Suite I'm falling, falling... Divide city lights with restless nights multiply all the wondering why with all the emotion in her weary sigh leave me here, holding on to a whisp of a memory I am aching like a summer storm, so please hurry, sweet medicated relief moon-struck, beyond belief swimming through blue-black tides for the love I can't abide Spring's blooming all around me but it's still winter in my heart you like to tear me apart and I hate it and I've waited so long jaded, but with every song I write like a kid again, I'm out there flying a kite if only in my mind In the sun, the sun like a black hole my skin burns, there's this magnetic pull towards whatever and ever amen well, will my feelings ever matter to anyone ever again? I'm falling, falling... but not sleeping, sleeping daylight's creeping in and I'm in love with this blue but this moment isn't true, is it? Clocks ticking, crickets cricking pale light licking me off the floor a footstep leading out the door I'm trying to keep the destruction at bay I'm trying, but I've no real words to say to give color to the grey A head contusion, an optical illusion you see your life get closer as it moves away it's a trick of the light, I tell myself, but either way I've a green envy to cover the place where I fell life's a breeze, but love is hell it's just as well, 'cause I'm falling, calling in the darkness there's the smallest hint of light it makes me feel alright And in the morning, morning I know I will feel like hell, stuck inside my crab shell but it's just as well 'cause tonight the cancer tastes sweet and I've got loser friends to meet down in the street at least that's what you think at least that's what I want you to think, 'cause really I'm falling, falling... falling, falling... isn't it appalling, I need you? Soul drifter My husband had throat cancer and went through radiation and chemotherepy. I was his caregiver. I understand how difficult the disease is...and you make it easier to understand how he felt. Your poem really hits the truth of the emotional toll it takes. Thank you so much for writing it. I wish you well and I hope that cancer becomes a thing of the past for you. ![]() |

Martie, thank you so much. The funny (well, probably not funny) thing is, the Cancer in the title I actually meant to be the zodiac sign - my zodiac sign, actually - not the disease (hence the crab shell line - that's me). I've never actually had it myself. The line "cancer tastes sweet" was my attempt at a play on words. Really, this is just another one of my patented melancholy songs...but I'm quite glad it can be taken in different ways. This is why I take such comfort in songs and poetry. I'm sorry to hear about your husband...hope he is doing better. Greeneyes, thank you as always. ![]() "I'm the soul drifter, and I'm out of this town, ain't no use hangin' round, you see" -- Lindsey Buckingham, 'Soul Drifter' |

SD I'm very glad to know you are one kind of cancer and not the other. The other is bad stuff! Thanks for the explanation. |
