Dear God, I'm not complaining and there's nothing that I seek, But the grave is quickly gaining and it's not for me I speak. You know that I'll gladly walk each path you send me down. But would it be too much, dear Lord, for my steps to gain some ground? I'm not asking that it be easy. I'm not looking for no free ride. But Lord, it sure would please me if I could see that as I strive... That although it's been a struggle atleast I've moved a step ahead and made some kind of pathway for the both of them to tread. Lord, I'm so guickly growing older and no matter how I've tried, it seems I just stay bogged down in the mire. Lay their pains upon my shoulders Let their path be clear and wide. Lift me up a bit, that they may be brought higher. Look down Lord ! Can't you see ? How much they both look up to me... I'm not asking that my road be clear and worn. Through my sweat and blood, I'll gladly wade Just let me see some progress made. Let me leave a pathway through the thorns. You granted me the blessings of these precious little souls. Lord, on you my faith is resting that before my death bell tolls... I may see some kind of victory sign. Some small gain I've brought my sons. I will close my eyes with peace of mind. Dear God, Thy will be done. |

Larry....So very touching!! You know...your poetry is a gift to your sons...one that will live for a long time...and they will see the great man that you are as well as your thoughts so grand and beautifully loving!! So, make them a book of your peotry..that they can one day read and be proud to call you dad. |

Larry, I hear your struggle in these lines in a compassionate way. I prayed many prayers for my son and offered him loving advice. However, in the end he took the "love" and advice of others and we all have reaped the bitter fruits of his decisions and to this day, over twenty years, he follows the wrong advice and has left a track of debris. And still I love him! Thanks for your lines! |

A beautifully heartfelt prayer and I hope that what you ask for is indeed meant to be. |

That poem is your gift Lar, along with all your many others. If you do nothing else in life (and I am sure you will), your words will fill in all the empty spaces and give your sons the guidence, strength and wisdom they'll need in life .. to go where you never tred. Your time is not at hand, and many more gifts you will place into their hands. They are luicky to have a daddy like you. tera |
