Johnny And Me Here it is Sunday morning, seems like it comes every week. The people dress up so fine, to go and hear the preacher speak. But I'm sitting here drinking coffee, with a sad song on my mind. A song about a Sunday morning, of a very different kind. The way Johnny sings it, makes me want to sing along. Cause there's something in it's weakness, that makes it mighty strong. I can feel his head aching, and I can smell his cleanest dirty shirt. I can feel"Sunday Morning Coming Down," and I can feel how much it hurt. I can smell that chicken frying, cause I've traveled down that road. Counting what the bottle costs you, can be such a heavy load. And I know that feel of lonesome, when you don't even know yourself, And the weight of Sunday morning, when you feel theres nothing left. But I'm sitting here drinking coffee, thanking God I ain't who I used to be. When you say your prayers this Sunday morning, please don't forget Johnny and me. In memory of Johnny Cash. |

Country songs come from plain ole livin' life ~ and our struggles to survive. You have done that, my friend. You'd do Johnny proud! ~ Truly! ~ and on so many levels. Enjoy your new life! You've got great things rollin' in! ~ and you deserve every single one of them!!! Kindred hugs 'n smiles, Linda |

Isn't it amazing how time and God can change us when somebody or sombodies lol, are praying for us. I am glad you are not who you used to be. That must be a wonderful testimony for you. Yet there is sadness in your poem. I will pray for you this Sunday, today. Bless this man Lord, for he has asked for Your help. Reach out to him and bless him today and give him strength and peace. Sheri Adams Jesus lives in my heart! He can in yours too!!! |

Thank You Enchantress, and you in mine! :-) Thank you MusicMaker1969, I guess everything we encounter in life effects at least a small change. I am one of the lucky ones to escape the vicious cycle but there are many yet still in those chains. You don't do much singing from there. I think Johnny and me are singing for those. :-) |

I love the whole poem, Steve...and what it says about you...but especially this: "The way Johnny sings it, makes me want to sing along. Cause there's something in it's weakness, that makes it mighty strong." weak to be strong, like cruel to be kind...just so much truth in that and quite alot of wisdom. Wish the road to knowing wasn't so full of potholes...ya know? |

That's half as lonesome as the sound Of the sleeping city sidewalk And Sunday morning coming down... I love your words for Johnny. I'm so glad you're not the way you used to be and I'm thanking God for you and Johnny this Sunday morning. Keep on keeping on. |

I can relate. Great write Bubba ! I watched "Walk The Line" a while back. I wept...I laughed... I praised God... At the site of a guardian angel in the form of Mother Maybelle Carter, confronting a drug dealer with a shotgun in her hands. ::smiles:: I remember her piercing eyes. Her Christ filled heart. I knew where she came from and knew where she was standing. I had to praise God. That image alone...was worth the price of admission. Keep walking the line , brother. |

You have written a very beautiful poem and I must reply to this one. My father would play this song on his Guitar while we would sit around the camp fire when I was young. and when he sang, Well I woke up sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. I could see a tear in his eyes. He met Johnny Cash when he was in a band called the five of hearts. Long before I was thought of. On the Louisiana hay ride circuit. Johnny cash is still my Idiol today Great poem Steven Thanks for sharing Debo |
